Reworking the books not just by their covers but the contents inside is a fascinating idea and something I’ve never heard of. As someone who owns the original duology I’d be very interested in how you’d end up changing them!
As someone who saw all the YouTube videos about your journey into traditional publishing and was super inspired by it , I can´t wait to see this new step in your writing and publishing journey. Keep us posted!
I’ve been following your journey since you were writing Keeper and Seeker. You’ve been a big inspiration to me as a writer. I would love love love to see what you do with the books!
This is so bittersweet but I’m so excited for the next steps! You and I published our first books in the same time line, ( you trad me indie) I’m so excited for the revamped books! It’s such a pleasure to revisit your own work and let it grow with you! 💜
Wow! I understand the mixed feelings, but honestly, I think it's amazing that you got your rights back... and I think the idea of revisiting the books is fantastic! I already can't wait to read them 😊 I clicked the links to your videos and oh my, the memories. That really took me back. Everything was so fun and exciting back then - but there's more to come!
I'm definitely seeing the upside and am super happy about Keeper and Seeker getting new life 🎉
That is awesome that you got the rights to your books back. And I am excited to see what you will do with the books going forward. What jumped out at me the most was your idea to making the books not YA but adult. I read both books and loved them but I would love to see how they might be changed for a more mature audience.
I absolutely adore your Keeper duology. So many fond memories surrounding my reading experiences with it as well as learning from your writing tutorials on YouTube back in the day. In fact, Seeker was the first book ever that I engaged in a preorder campaign to get free swag directly from the author, which has opened up a new world for me.
As a fan, I'm more than eager to support your endeavors to improve on it and share it all over again. All I ask is that you do as much justice to the characters as you did in the originals, in whatever changes you may make to them. They were so easy to love and feel for throughout the journey.
I have utmost faith in you :) And I will gladly embark on a new reading journey with Lainey, Ty and Maggie. Best of luck!
I haven’t read the books so take this with a grain of salt, from a writer who also reworked his series.
Check if your readers will be okay with changing the characters’ ages and thus making a completely different story. It might be better to revise with their same ages and then write sequels that show the same characters at older ages in new adventures, if that works. If I were an original reader, I would want to see more of the characters by having them continue on.
Also, add some new scenes and/or characters and/or subplots, like when George Lucas revised Star Wars, to give something fresh and exciting for your current readers. You can choose how long you want each book to be, especially if the titles change. I revised mine to shorten the books, which expanded the actual series length. Which required me adding some new stuff because I was converting each original book into two books.
All that said, these are just some suggestions to consider. Taylor Swift redid her entire 1989 album her way and everyone loved the new versions, and based on comments here, your fans will be with you however you do it!
I’m probably your newest subscriber so feel a bit nervy leaving a comment lol but I honestly think reworking and indie publishing them is a great idea. In fact, as soon as I read the bit about the rights reversion I was all “awesome, she can do things her way now!” 😆...though that’s not to invalidate how it must have felt to read the email - it must have been a bit gutting. Enjoy the ride...indie publishing is a beast in its own right but the freedom is hard to beat 😉
I love hearing wonderful, uplifting news like this!💖😊I'd also love to extend my help with anything that would ease your task. Keep on riding light rays 💪☀️
I can totally understand your sadness at the news, but I see this as a massive win for you! I would absolutely love to read your new version of these books, to see them as you now see them. The originals will always have a place in my heart, though, of course. :)
I watched your original journey on your YouTube channel, and as an aspiring author, it was really inspiring. I would love to get the updated versions of the books and I am so excited to watch this new era unfold.
I would jump at the chance to buy them if you rereleased them like this! How exciting!
Thanks, Dustin! That makes me happy! 🥹💚
